Bloomsbury is seeking a creative, strategic, and highly motivated Senior Marketing Manager to join our Adult Trade Marketing department. In this pivotal role, you will spearhead cutting-edge marketing and growth strategies across our Trade list, creating impactful campaigns that connect incredible books with readers worldwide. You will work closely with editors, publicists, sales teams, and authors to devise and execute audience-focused campaigns that build readership, drive sales, and strengthen Bloomsbury's reputation for publishing exceptional books.
This is a rare chance to work across both fiction and non-fiction, shaping the long-term brand strategies for internationally renowned historians and thinkers such as Rutger Bregman and Peter Frankopan, acclaimed novelists including Ann Patchett and Louise Kennedy, and high-profile voices such as Gillian Anderson. From literary fiction and narrative non-fiction to major cultural publishing, this role offers the opportunity to work across some of the most exciting books and authors in contemporary publishing.
Responsibilities
- Campaign Leadership: Creating, implementing, and analyzing creative campaigns that utilize the full marketing mix to cut through the noise.
- Brand & Launch Strategy: Driving the positioning for titles, authors, and building brands, while collaborating directly with high-profile authors and their teams to develop bestselling global campaigns.
- Creative Direction: Overseeing the creation of highly engaging consumer-facing assets and sales materials—from digital to outdoor—working closely with designers, creative professionals, and external media agencies.
- Strategic Collaboration: Leading key relationships with our publicity, editorial, and sales teams and actively contributing to conversations around wider publishing strategy, list shape, and acquisitions.
- Partnerships & Growth: Proactively pursuing cross-promotional partnerships, deepening relationships with influencers and retailers, and collaborating with international teams to ensure cohesive global campaigns.
- Budget Management: Working closely with the Head of Marketing to set, manage, and reactively adjust budgets to seize market opportunities.
- Team Leadership: Line managing and mentoring junior team members, fostering a collaborative and ambitious team culture.
Qualifications
- Strong demonstrated experience of B2C marketing in publishing, working with established brands, platform authors, and launching debuts.
- Equally comfortable working on literary fiction and ideas-led non-fiction, combining creativity with strong commercial instincts.
- Creative vision and excellent copywriting skills, an impeccable eye for detail, and a strong understanding of how to build a compelling visual language for a campaign.
- Proven strategic and analytical skills, including a strong ability to interpret data, identify market trends, improve outcomes, and develop new processes.
- A deep understanding of the modern media and cultural landscape, digital marketing tools, and current social platforms.
- Outstanding interpersonal, negotiation, and persuasion skills, with the ability to confidently build strong relationships and communicate with stakeholders at all levels, including high-profile authors, influencers, and global brand partners.
- The ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across departments.
- Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Unmatched enthusiasm for connecting readers with outstanding authors and books.
- Line management experience.
