Role overview
The Lancet Global Health is seeking an experienced Senior Editor to contribute to the leading global health journal worldwide. This is a part-time, fixed-term position based in the UK (London). As part of a small, friendly team, you will handle a high volume of submissions while providing a personalized service to researchers. You will work closely with authors, reviewers, Editorial Board members, and internal specialists to maintain the journal's scientific excellence.
The Senior Editor will lead the acquisition, peer review, and publication of high-quality research within their subject area. This role requires strong scientific expertise, editorial judgment, the ability to assess manuscripts, make independent publication decisions, commission impactful content, and contribute to the journal's strategic development. You will collaborate with a global authorship base and foster relationships within the research community.
Responsibilities
- Identify experts to act as peer reviewers on selected submissions
- Commission and handle special project content as necessary
- Develop and maintain links with the global health community to solicit high-quality research and thought leadership for the journal
- Attend conferences and other events to represent the journal, identify suitable topics and authors, and stay up-to-date with current developments in global health
Requirements
- Higher degree in a relevant discipline (e.g., public health, biomedical science)
- Research experience in a relevant field or experience in the wider development community
- Some editorial experience, with a good understanding of all aspects of the journal publishing process
- First-class critical analysis skills
- A genuine commitment to equity in health and health-care
- An unfailingly can-do attitude
