Role overview

Little Tiger Press is seeking a talented, efficient, and creative Senior Designer to join their team for a 9-month maternity cover. This role focuses on board and novelty books, a key area for the publisher which produces dynamic, commercial novelty boards, picture books, and fiction. The ideal candidate will have proven experience in board and novelty book design, with a track record of developing and delivering books from concept to production. They should be a team player, bringing fresh ideas and creating exceptional, innovative work.

Responsibilities

  • Design fantastic books, with distinctive covers, clever novelties, and striking typography.
  • Provide clear commercial briefs and art direction through all stages of the design process.
  • Pursue, nurture, and develop illustrators, helping them create their most exciting work.
  • Provide assets for book fairs and sales deadlines.
  • Contribute to the smooth running of the department.
  • Liaise with the production department throughout all stages.
  • Maintain accurate files and logs, chasing and meeting key deadlines.

Requirements

  • At least 4 years of experience in children's books.
  • Experience with novelty elements, finishes, cutter guides, and paper engineering.
  • Outstanding flair for typography and book design.
  • Creative problem-solving skills, particularly for 3D and mechanical challenges.
  • Excellent communication, organization, time, and project management skills.
  • Flexibility to juggle multiple deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to expertly chase and collate visual assets from the design team.
  • Relevant market, consumer, and trend awareness to help develop new commercial concepts and formats.
  • Ability to present design concepts, approaches, and work-in-progress to various internal collaborators.
  • Good knowledge of production processes.
  • Proficiency in InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
