Role overview

Do you want to work on innovative promotional campaigns for the books and ideas shaping how we understand the past? Are you an experienced books marketer ready to take the lead on campaigns for a globally respected history list? If so, we'd love to hear from you.

This is a fixed-term cover opportunity to market a dynamic and diverse history list. This program is at the forefront of emerging areas of study, publishing innovative and groundbreaking scholarship that explores the past from a rich variety of perspectives. Spanning international and gender history and every period from the medieval era to the present day, these are books read and taught around the world.

Reporting into a Senior Marketing Manager, you will use the full marketing mix and work closely with the Sales, Editorial, and Bloomsbury Digital Resources marketing teams to create awareness and generate sales for titles ranging from general interest and course books through to monographs, academic research, and reference works. Alongside the History list, you'll also support marketing for our Research Methods titles.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and implement the marketing strategy, spend, and budget for the History list across print, ebook, and audiobook formats
  • Devise and deliver all aspects of marketing plans for the lists, including but not limited to: email marketing; web marketing and SEO; social media; print and online advertising (including PPC); review copy outreach; academic conferences and events; author care; and sales materials and support
  • Collaborate closely with a US marketing counterpart on global marketing strategy, tactical plans, and author care
  • Work closely with Editorial, Sales, and Bloomsbury Digital Resources teams to deliver results-driven, creative campaigns that drive adoptions, usage, engagement, brand recognition, and sales across print and digital
  • Partner with external organizations, such as scholarly societies, to extend reach and visibility

  • Strong interpersonal skills, with experience of building and maintaining relationships both internally and externally, demonstrating a positive attitude and diplomacy
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to write persuasive, market-focused copy for different audiences and a good eye for detail
  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills; able to work across a large volume of titles/authors
  • Hands-on experience of all or most of the following:
  • Budgeting, planning, and monitoring spend
  • Devising creative or experimental campaigns on your own initiative
  • Digital marketing across email, web, social media, and PPC
  • Optimizing marketing activities through analysis and A/B testing
