Role overview

Are you a dynamic and driven sales professional with a passion for building and nurturing relationships? We are seeking an exceptional Key Account Manager to champion our Penguin Random House (PRH) Children’s list across India. As a Key Account Manager, you will drive the growth of PRH UK Children’s publishing within one of our most exciting international markets.

Managing the day-to-day relationship with PRH India, you’ll develop and execute a strategic sales plan to exceed annual targets, identify new opportunities across both frontlist and catalogue titles, and provide valuable market insight to shape future growth. Collaborating closely with the Sales Manager, India, you’ll articulate a clear vision for the market, adapt strategies as trends evolve, and build strong partnerships through regular engagement with stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Day-to-day management of sales of children’s books to PRH India.
  • Exceed annual budget for sales of children’s books to PRH India.
  • Flex selling and influencing style to meet the needs of PRH India.
  • Regular meetings with PRH India online and one to two in-person trips per year.
  • Evaluate market trends and provide feedback to the director and the wider team and lead on exploiting these opportunities.
  • Continually review and exploit catalogue and identify frontlist opportunities with PRH India.
  • Work closely with the Sales Manager, India to plan strategic growth of PRH UK’s children’s publishing.
  • Be able to articulate a strategy and vision for India to team and stakeholders.
  • Be confident and open to update the strategy as the market changes.
  • Work closely with the Children’s International Sales Director and Children’s International Sales team to develop cross-market sales strategies for International.
  • Become a trusted voice for international within the Children’s division, working closely with the publishing, marketing & publicity teams across all aspects of the business to help shape strategy and advocate for the needs of international markets.
  • Advocate for the children’s division within the wider international sales structure.
  • Attend key divisional meetings and represent international markets.
  • Report and provide sales updates and analysis on behalf of international for key titles and brands.
  • Report on sales to authors, agents, brand owners & licensors as needed, over email and in face to face meetings.
  • Collaborate with production and editorial teams to schedule key titles, ensuring dropship requirements are accounted for, and maintain clear, aligned timelines across all stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Experience of working in an international or UK sales department.
  • Genuine interest in and passion for and knowledge of children’s books.
  • Excellent communication, energy, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong personal organisation and time management.
  • Demonstrable analytical and numeracy skills.
  • The ability to work autonomously in the field and to be an ambassador for PRH and PRH UK Children’s books internationally.
  • Strong negotiation skills and the ability to flex according to local customs or individual key contacts.
  • Demonstrate a high level of intentional curiosity for the role, customers, book market and sales region.
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset, always seeking new opportunities.
  • Confidence to act as a strong advocate for India internally.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: £37,000 - £42,000 dependent on how your skills and experience align to the role, plus bonus and benefits.
  • Hybrid working: While our offices across the UK are places to connect, collaborate and celebrate with colleagues, we recognise that flexibility around where you work is just as important. For this role we expect that you will work from our office in London at least three days per week.
