Job Description

Role overview

Bloomsbury is looking for an Editorial Assistant to join the Special Interest Team as a fixed-term maternity cover. This division creates high-quality content for hobbies and interests in areas such as sports, health and wellness, sailing, camping, walking, military history, wildlife, and creative writing. They also publish rigorous non-fiction for an educated readership in politics, philosophy, history, religion, and popular science. This role will specifically support the Sport and Green Tree lists (3 days per week) and the Nautical and Conway lists (2 days per week). The ideal candidate will have exceptional organizational skills, a keen eye for detail, and experience juggling multiple tasks. A passion for books is essential, and previous office experience would be advantageous.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the editorial team with editorial and administrative tasks
  • Manage reprints for each list, liaising with production and checking proofs
  • Manage catalogue copy to ensure accuracy and completeness
  • Check ebook files
  • Check Biblio and update copy
  • Send out proofs and advance copies to authors, contributors, and others
  • Check proof corrections
  • Check media cuttings and upload quotes to Biblio
  • Submit titles for book prizes
  • Check title and metadata reports, and update Biblio with missing information
  • Check Amazon to ensure all information is up to date, including Look Inside/keywords
  • Compile and update a freelancer database
  • Fill in HMRC forms/Statements of Work
  • Manage the UK Hydrographic Office licensing process
  • Manage the nautical departmental email address
  • Assist with industry events

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary: £27,000
  • Hybrid working pattern: 2 days office based/3 days home based (office days are Monday and Tuesday)
