Role overview
We are looking for a talented, creative Designer to join our highly productive Academic and Professional Division, which publishes across a range of subjects including Architecture, Business, Design, Drama, Education, Fashion, Film & Media, History, Law, Linguistics, Literary Studies, Philosophy, Politics and Theology. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop a career in book cover design, working across a broad range of non-fiction projects.
Responsibilities
- Cover design of new titles across selected lists
- Generating final cover artwork (using Adobe CS) for new titles
- Liaising with editorial, marketing and production colleagues, and external suppliers on cover design, status, schedules, and budgets
- Ensure company systems are kept up-to-date with cover data, files and status
- Conduct monthly Cover Meeting with title Editors
Requirements
- Experience working in an academic publishing environment or other relevant setting
- A real love for typography and books as objects
- Proven technical expertise (InDesign, Photoshop, Acrobat)
- Experience of managing freelance designers and illustrators
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills
- The ability to process a large volume of work quickly and accurately
- A keen eye for detail
- The confidence to liaise with internal stakeholders and external suppliers
Additional information
The role is a full-time, permanent position. The role is based at our London office, 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP, on a hybrid-working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are Wednesday and Thursday.
Compensation and Benefits
- Pay Range: £29,000 - £31,600 per annum
- This position is eligible for Bloomsbury’s Rental Deposit Loan Scheme. To assist candidates who want to start and to establish a career in publishing, Bloomsbury offers an interest-free rental deposit to support securing somewhere to live. The rental deposit loan can be up to £3,000 and will be paid back over 2 years.
- Working Pattern: Hybrid working pattern of 2 days office based / 3 days home based (or fully office based if preferred)
- Holidays: 25 days holiday, 3.5 days Christmas company holiday
