Role overview

We are seeking a highly motivated and strategic Deputy Editor to join Wiley's Advanced team, supporting the Editor-in-Chief of an Advanced cross-disciplinary title in medicine. The Deputy Editor would also be expected to support the wider Advanced portfolio, managing manuscripts within their own areas of expertise.

The ideal candidate will be a dedicated Advanced portfolio ambassador with an extensive global network in medical research, driving strategic initiatives that bridge groundbreaking research communities and shape how interdisciplinary science is published and shared worldwide. The Deputy Editor actively participates in the peer review process and decision-making for submitted manuscripts while ensuring adoption of best practices and the highest ethical standards in publishing.

Responsibilities

  • Alongside the Editor-in-Chief, develop and execute strategic initiatives to grow Wiley's Advanced Portfolio within medicine globally.
  • Commission high-quality papers and build collaborative relationships with leading researchers through community engagement to enhance content quality and brand influence.
  • Manage the peer review process, and decision manuscripts, to ensure the highest possible editorial standards.
  • Collaborate with the global editorial team to manage manuscripts submitted from related Advanced titles.
  • Support the launch and management of new Advanced spin-off titles in relevant subject areas as the brand expands.
  • Work within a team of in-house editors to inform medical cluster strategies.
  • Collaborate closely with marketing teams to devise and implement brand-enhancing events and initiatives for both short-term and long-term success.
  • Lead generation and ideas for subject-related products passed on to appropriate colleagues.

Qualifications

  • PhD in any medical specialty. Post-doctoral and clinical experience would be preferred.
  • Demonstrated commissioning experience including identifying priority topics, approaching prospective authors, agreeing outlines/timelines, and guiding authors through to submission.
  • Manuscript handling experience (prescreening, peer review, final decision, appeals and integrity cases).
  • Subject-Matter Expertise (academic).
  • Strong global network within research communities and proven track record of engaging with top-tier research talents.
  • Displays high integrity and honesty.
  • Mindset with ability to identify opportunities and convert strategic visions into actionable plans.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Love to travel (internationally).

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary Range: 36,100 GBP to 51,833 GBP
